Slumdog Millionaire

In the past A.R. Rahman has worked on international collaborations but other than the fact that his soundtracks make big news, they haven't been known much amongst the Indian audience. This is the first time ever that one is hearing a lot about this project of his because a) it has been set in India, b) all the actors in the film are Indians, c) the film is getting a mainstream release and d) there are awards and more awards that are coming the way of not just the film but also the music.A score which was relatively unknown till a few months back, has certainly become big due to which one picks up the CD of Slumdog Millionaire with great expectations.

Luck By Chance

Shankar Mahadevan was an Indian classical vocalist before he became Shankar. Loy Mendonsa was a jazz-funk keyboard player before he became Loy. Ehsaan Noorani was a blues-rock-fusion guitar player before he became Ehsaan. And the best thing about Bollywood composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is they can pick and choose from their influences almost at will.
When that kind of skill meets the Akhtars' creativity, it's a potent cocktail, as evidenced by soundtracks and movies like Dil Chahta Hai [
Images] and Rock On!!
So, we picked up the Luck By Chance [
Images] audio CD with a lot of expectation. The movie is Farhan Akhtar's [Images] sister Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut, and it is reportedly about the world of Bollywood strugglers.

Billu Barber

A Shahrukh Khan film is always special. But what does he do when the film is centered on Irrfan Khan, as also conveyed by the title of the film, with him being only in a special appearance? Well, he only goes full-on to make it as commercial as possible by appearing in number of song and dance appearances. Not just that, he also ropes in some of the top heroines in the industry and makes them dance along with him. If in Om Shanti Om, he had opted for Vishal-Shekhar as the composers, for Billu Barber he gives Pritam the responsibility of creating a hardcore commercial score. While 2008 was superb for the composer with number of back to back successful albums (Jannat, Singh Is Kinng, Race, Kismat Konnection, Golmaal Returns), 2009 also promises to follow suit with Billu Barber beginning the year!

Delhi 6

After tasting international success through Slumdog millionaire, the Mozart of India is coming up with his latest offering Delhi 6. Last year has been quite special for Rahman and his fans as whatever he touched turned gold whether it was Jodha Akbar, Ada, J.T.Y.J.N, Yuuvaraj, Sakkarakatti or Ghajini. And to top that all an international movie which got him the Golden globe - a lot was indeed riding on Delhi6 and the fact that Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Rahman’s last collaboration was the revolutionary movie Rang De Basanti, it just couldn’t get bigger than this. Let’s see if Delhi 6 can stand up to its huge expectations or not.
